Why Anti-Gay Marriage Crusade Failed

Twelve states passed so-called ''same-sex marriage'' bans in 2004. This national campaign of prejudice did not succeed in Florida in 2006. Is this reason to rejoice or is it just a bump in the road for the caravan of intolerance sweeping across the United States?

The proposed amendment failed to receive the 611,000 signatures needed by the Feb. 1 deadline to get on the ballot this year in Florida. But advocates already are attempting to bring the issue back in 2008.

After years of struggle to protect the civil rights and voting rights of every American, it is now in vogue to discriminate against gay and lesbian families via what seems like a national anti-marriage crusade.

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart has used satire to illustrate how ridiculous the reactionary tactics against gays and lesbians are through skits like Queer and Present Danger and the Gaying of America. And it's almost funny just how absurd this campaign really is -- almost.  [Read More]
