CONNECTIONS BETWEEN FAITH AND GIVING
Center on Philanthropy
A research institute dedicated to philanthropy related to
religion and faith has been established at Indiana University,
according to a press release from the school. The Lake Family
Institute is being funded by a $5 million grant from the family

YOUTH SERVICE FUELS CHARITY
Philanthropy Journal
A report by Independent Sector and Youth Service America says
Americans who volunteer when young are more generous adult
donors and volunteers than are those who don't volunteer when
young. Parent volunteers are more likely to inspire their
children to volunteer, and parents who volunteered when young
are more likely to volunteer with their children, says the
report.

CONFERENCES AND TRAINING
NATIONAL YOUTH SUMMIT ON PREVENTING VIOLENCE
National Crime Prevention Council
This four-day event is intended to mobilize youth and involve
them in changing the negative perception about youth and crime.
The conference, to be held February 15-18, 2003, in Anaheim,
California, will provide training sessions, an educational field
trip, and roundtable discussions.

ACTIVE LIVING THROUGH COMMUNITY DESIGN
Robert Wood Johnson Foundation: Active Living by Design
The Active Living by Design program of the Robert Wood Johnson
Foundation develops partnerships and implements strategies that
support active living through changes in local community design,
transportation, and architecture. The program will award grants
of up to $200,000 each to 25 community partnerships across the
country.

Baseball Tomorrow Fund
Nonprofit organizations involved in youth baseball and softball
programs may apply to the Baseball Tomorrow Fund, a joint
initiative of Major League Baseball and the Major League
Baseball Players Association. Grants may be used to finance a
new program, expand or improve an existing program, undertake a
new collaborative effort, or obtain necessary facilities or
equipment.

CHAMPIONS OF FITNESS
General Mills Champions Youth Nutrition and Fitness Initiative
The goal of the General Mills Champions Youth Nutrition and
Fitness
Initiative is to improve youth nutrition and fitness across the
U.S. The Initiative will award 50 grants of up to $10,000 each
to community-based groups that develop creative programs to help
youth maintain a balanced diet and a physically active
lifestyle.

CABLE STATION SUPPORTS HIV/AIDS-RELATED PROGRAMS
Tony Cox Community Fund
Cable Positive's Tony Cox Community Fund encourages AIDS
organizations and local cable systems to work together in joint
community outreach efforts, or to produce and distribute new,
locally-focused HIV/AIDS-related programs and public service
announcements. Grants are available up to $5,000 for
organizations, with special consideration given to AIDS service
organizations (ASOs) and cable systems and producers
partnering with ASOs.

START UP FUNDS FOR NEW NONPROFITS
Draper Richards Foundation
Experienced, dedicated social entrepreneurs with a developed
idea for a nonprofit organization in the United States are
invited to apply for a Draper Richards Fellowship. Projects that
demonstrate innovative ways to solve existing social problems
are eligible to receive up to $100,000 annually for three years.

Wallace Global Fund
The priorities of the Wallace Global Fund are to stabilize the
growth of human populations; to realize significant changes in

likely to lead to broad policy changes, or those that leverage
