awards.jpgNedra Johnson and Toshi Reagon were nominated for this year's Out Music Awards. Nedra Johnson was nominated for three songs on her newest release "Nedra" for "Any Way You Need Her" featuring David Johnson, words and music by Nedra Johnson:

Any way you need Her, She will come!
Any way you need Her, She will come!
By the intentions of your heart
You can always count on God
And any way you need Her, She will come!

Jesus is a lesbian!
Any way you need Her, She will come!
If for you to see the Light
She got to be male, long blond hair & white
Any way you need Her, She will come!

Other nominated songs on her album are: The World Could Stop Turning and Forever With Me. Of course, the Out Song nomination is for her song Any Way You Need Her. Check out Nedra's work over at her site: http://members.aol.com/bmgnedra/

Under the category Outstanding New Recording: Female, Toshi Reagon was nominated for her album "Have You Heard." Songs from that album include: Have You Heard, 22 Hours and Building Blues. Toshi was also nominated in the category of Outstanding Songwriter. Check out what Toshi's been doing and preview some of her music over at her site at: http://www.toshireagon.com/

HAVE YOU HEARD

HAVE YOU HEARD, HAVE YOU HEARD
THE DREAMS OF THE DOVE
I AM SURE IT'S A SIGN OF THE LORD
DID YOU DANCE TO THAT THUNDEROUS SHOUT
I AM SURE IT'S A SIGN OF THE LORD

I GOT CHILLS IN MY EYES FROM LOOKIN ABOVE
I AM SURE IT'S A SIGN OF THE LORD

I CAN RUN AND I CAN FLY
AND I'M SURE THAT'S ALRIGHT
I CAN DRIVE TOO FAST
AND I'M SURE THAT'S HOW I'LL PASS
I CAN MIND YOUR MIND
AND I'M SURE THAT SHE WON'T MIND
I CAN DO IT ALL
AND WHEN SHE COMES I'LL FALL DOWN

Nominated for Out Musician of the Year are Toshi Reagon and Aaron-Carl. Songs from Aaron-Carl are: Liberation (Free), Hateful, and My Stranger. Liberation (Free) is the kind of song you'll want playing while on the way to Pride. Aaron-Carl says "LGBT activism is my way of life, 24/7. I boldly display my activism everywhere I travel throughout the world. (Countries like Israel, Germany, Denmark, Austria, Iceland, just to name a few.) I sing and play to mostly straight audiences; I get my messages across loud and clear -- and because of my honesty and lack of fear, I've gained a lot of respect.

My two children (whom I adopted as a single GAY man) are being raised by myself and my partner of 5 years. In my community, we're the ONLY "OUT" gay couple around, and DEFINITELY the only one with children. (In Detroit, that's VERY hard to do!) My children witness our daily struggle in society, but most importantly, they see our RESPONSE to it. In turn, my children have learned to be proud of themselves -- whoever they grow up to be..." You can check out Aaron-Carl's work at his site: http://www.aaroncarl.com/

Congratulations are in order for all nominees this year for their accomplishments and for keeping the PRIDE! You can click any of the song links above to listen to the music. RealPlayer is needed for all songs.

The awards ceremony takes place Sunday, June 11th at the Knitting Factory, New York City. This year's event is co-hosted by international folk poet and queer artist-activist Alix Olson and global gay pop singer/ songwriter/ producer Ari Gold, and will honor the groundbreaking composer and activist Tom Wilson Weinberg, DJ, remix artist, songwriter and producer Junior Vasquez, and queer radio personality Kathy Rieser

Nedra Johnson won the award for Outstanding New Recording Female!!!!!!!!!!

Very well deserved! I love the honesty in her music, and after seeing her play in person, she really knows how to work her guitar.
