Make You Wanna Holler

Posted at January 26, 2006 09:50 AM in Health/Fitness .

TeflonAs if we didn't have enough to worry about regarding genetically modified foods (GMOs) which, by the way, is being pushed heavily in Africa, we now know Teflon -- the stuff they hailed as the best thing since sliced bread -- is HARMFUL!   Hello!

According to this Washington Post article, eight U.S. companies, including giant DuPont Co., agreed yesterday to virtually eliminate a harmful chemical used to make Teflon from all consumer products coated with the ubiquitous nonstick material.  The chemical perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) is a key processing agent in making nonstick and stain-resistant materials and has been linked to cancer and birth defects in animals and is in the blood of 95 percent of Americans, including pregnant women.  It has also been found in the blood of marine organisms and Arctic polar bears.

This was brought on by DuPont's $16.5 million settlement with the EPA over the company's failure to report possible health risks associated with PFOA.
