Greetings...
It's Tiye Lasley, Co-Founder and Executive Director of African Asian Latina
Lesbians United, AALLU. We are an organization that created by womyn of colour
for womyn of colour. We gather once a month for educational and networking
opportunities for womyn of colour. Our biggest event is our annul conference
which is generally a culmination of what we do throughout the year.
The AALLU Executive Board has decided to take a different direction relating to
the 2005 Conference. I would like to share with you the new direction and
perhaps get your feedback and better yet, your endorsement and participation.
AALLU is hosting a conference that would be the first of it's kind in our area.
It will be a conference that represent Eastern Regional Womyn of Colour. We
thought what better way to provide a greater impact within the l/g/b/t community
is to invite positive and productive leaders, organizers, and promoters of womyn
of colour organization. We would like to think we will be able to transfer the
reputation of an "AALLU Conference" to something greater and more influential.
What we would like to achieve is an expansion of a AALLU conference by formally
including the input and sponsorship of other groups and organizations. This will
also allow the doors to open for other diverse groups and organizations. Also,
bringing together other leaders will expedite the planning process due to their
current experiences and expertise in recruitment of facilitators, promotion, and
etc. Every organization, group, or promoter can contribute towards this event.
For the past 7 years, one of our most successful events is our annual conference
that takes place in February. Since the 2005 conference is schedule for March,
this conference would take on a new presentence. The location will remain at
Rutgers University for March 4 - 6, 2005 during Womyn's Herstory Month.
If an organization wants to sponsor this event:
They would have to commit to the monthly meetings; bimonthly starting January 2005 (a representative from the organization, not necessarily always the same person)
Lead or CO-lead one subcommittee (i.e., Vendors, Faclitators/Keynote, Networking Luncheon, Marketing/Promotion, etc.)
Provide 2 volunteers for the conference
Our first meeting will take place October 30 at 11:00am at
Rutgers University. Please RSVP by October 25 in order to receive the agenda
prior to the meeting. Light refreshments will be provided.

"Eastern Regional Womyn of Colour for Equality Conference"
Saturday and Sunday, March 5 - 6, 2005

Join womyn around the region to discuss and share what matters to lesbian of
colour! This 2 day conference features your choice of over 15 workshops, guest
speakers, entertainment, arts, books, and crafts. Hot gourmet breakfast and
buffet lunch included.
