Not long ago I was all a twitter after reading the Kogi truck was outside of MOMA where, I might add, one festive concert was taking place as well. I headed down to the truck and was met with a line so long I knew that would not be the night for Korean Bar-B-Que. If you don’t know or haven’t heard Kogi is Korean Bar-B-Que to go (official website) and they have two trucks circulating around Los Angeles, night and day, serving up tacos and tasty treats.
Utilizing the power of social media, the Kogi trucks twitter their locations (that would be @KogiBBQ to you)and basically that’s how folks know where they’ll be and the line begins before the trucks arrive. Unfortunately, one of the trucks, Verde, went bust on the 15th and is somewhere recuperating meaning, there’s only one cute little truck on the road and perhaps a loaner.
If Korean Bar-B-Que tacos aren’t your thing, there are other coaches out there and some of them are quite unique. Unfortunately, the one I would love to see in Los Angeles — and I don’t care where because I’d be camping by its side — is the Creme Brulee Cart (that would be @cremebruleecart to you.) Yes, I would certainly be one happy camper if I could have creme brulee at my beck and call here in Los Angeles.
In Southern California however, sans the creme brulee, there are others. If you like grass-fed moo (as in cow), you need to know about LetsBeFrankLA (that would be @letsbefrank to you). Not only do they sell a-dog-on-a-bun, they also have product as in uncured beef franks, spicy Italian sausage, bratwurst and their Devil Sauce.
Unlike Kogi, their trailer is typically parked outside of the Helms Bakery and when I’m feeling up to driving all the way into L.A., I can catch them there weekends between 11:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Thursday evenings they are in Silverlake between 5:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. For folks up in Northern California, they’ve branched out there too.
For a growing list of other gourmet coaches, carts, trailers and trucks see Serious Eats List of Food Vendors, hit up Twitter and let the eats begin.
